I have been a self-taught photographer since 1982, when I acquired my first 35mm SLR camera, a Pentax® ME Super. I prefer to work using natural light only. Outdoor photography makes up the majority of what I do, but I also enjoy shooting sporting events, and cultural & music festivals.

Photographers’ whose work has inspired me include Sherman Hines, Freeman Patterson, and Ernst Haas. Early on I attended seminars presented by these accomplished gentlemen – what a thrill and a privilege to be given insights into the methods and minds of such distinguished craftsmen!

I now shoot primarily with Canon
® digital equipment. What I especially enjoy about photography, and more recently digital photography, is its’ combination of the technical and the creative.

I was raised at Bloomfield Ridge, on the upper reaches of the famous Miramichi River in central New Brunswick, Canada, which instilled in me a love of, and respect for, our natural world. I moved away from there many years ago but I go back whenever I can. To this day the Miramichi area remains relatively unchanged and it is where, as a photographer, I feel the most inspired and spiritually rejuvenated.

For me, photography is indeed a very spiritual and organic thing…when I am immersed in the great outdoors, away from the stresses of big city life, I feel connected to and in harmony with nature. Yes, I am in pursuit of a great shot when I am out there, but that’s beside the point; of more value to me is the sense of renewed well-being that I get from the entire experience. There is nothing better than being “off the beaten path”, alone with my camera equipment for the day!

I reside in Edmonton, Alberta, where I work for a major electrical utility. Go Oilers! Go Eskimos
